Candle in the Dark
Height: 14 in
Width: 11 in
Master Artist: William-Adolphe Bouguereau -- emphasis on females, many youthful; mix of fantasy and modern realism
Current Artist: Kacey Morrow -- melting face
Ideas: Subject is using fire to melt away another face, a false image. This piece works to question identity and female beauty standards. The face that has melted off maintains a more scarlet lip color and larger eyes, with facial proportions closer to perfection. The yellow skin helps convey how this piece relates to being multi-racial, and how asian individuals are often characterized by yellow skin. The subject's real face has more golden tones, and slightly almond-shaped eyes to signify her ethnicity and unconventional looks in society's modern beauty standards.
Materials: Canvas, acrylic paints
Processes: Took pictures of myself imitating the desired face of subject, made a thumbnail sketch, sketched piece out on canvas, began painting
