Quality Producer and Complex Thinker
When I was younger, striving for perfection was a marked trait of mine. This quality was specifically demonstrated in my art. Each line was a new detail, and each detail was a new exploration of some complexity. Whether in two- or three-dimensional art, I always pushed myself to produce the highest quality of work, and this process often involved hours of thinking before execution.
An example of my ability to produce quality work and think complexly is my painting, “outré”. In this piece, I explore sexuality and how same-sex relationships between women are often sexualized. It unveils how modern femininity involves embracing one's unconventional desires, and viewing same sex relationships for their emotional values.
I had to think complexly in order to successfully send across these messages while curating an aesthetically appealing piece. I additionally had to ponder over my process and the steps I would take to build the piece. I began by sketching out the figures, priming the canvas with a watered down light blue, and painting the background and subjects. I made the decision to do the piece around the subject of water in order to convey flow and connection. Bodies of water are often connected through streams and rivers in a system called a watershed. I created a series of swirls as a reference to the swirling together of the two female subjects, further demonstrating my theme of attachment. The blue, single color scheme acts as a final way to unify the piece, tying the figures together as a singular, joint subject.
